2026 WCQ playoff: Super Eagles battles DR Congo for Africa’s ticket

Africa’s representative at the 2026 World Cup intercontinental playoffs, will be either Nigeria or the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Super Eagles needed extra time to see off Gabon 4-1 in their semi-final clash on Thursday.

Despite dominating most of the match, Eric Chelle’s men were only able to find the back of the net in the 78th, thanks to a defensive mix-up.

Mario Lemina’s deflected effort forced the game into extra time, where Victor Osimhen scored a brace and Chidera Ejuke also got on the score sheet.

Later that evening, Chancel Mbemba struck in stoppage time, as they beat Cameroon 1-0 in their semi-final.

With this result, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will battle it out tonight by 8pm with the the Democratic Republic of Congo to see which country will advance to the Intercontinental playoffs for the final game in sealing spot for the 2026 World Cup.
