The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has raised alarm over what it described as the increasing harassment and intimidation of its members by political thugs across Lagos State.

According to the party, the disturbing trend had made it increasingly difficult for its members to hold meetings or engage in lawful political activities in several local government areas.

Addressing journalists during a press conference in Festac, the head of ADC’s Local Government Area chairmen in Lagos State, Ugochukwu Anaere, said there had been a series of targeted attacks against party members, with security agencies failing to take decisive action.

“Virtually all our colleagues from the 20 LGAs in the state have reported one form of threat or attack. We have escalated these incidents to the party leadership and to law enforcement agencies, particularly the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services, DSS. Regrettably, these threats and attacks appear intractable,” Anaere said.

Anaere stated that the ADC would no longer tolerate the intimidation, harassment, or assault of its members and leaders by individuals or groups operating under any guise.

He also called on security agencies to take immediate action against anyone making inflammatory statements or threatening voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“These grave concerns of ours must be addressed urgently. We appeal to relevant national and state authorities to take adequate steps to safeguard our votes and protect the lives and property of Nigerian voters, irrespective of their political affiliation, religion, or ethnicity,” he added.
