One dead, eight rescued, after three-storey building collapsed in Lagos
A three-storey building, which residents reported was undergoing manual demolition, collapsed in the Apapa area of Lagos on Thursday, resulting in one confirmed death and the successful rescue of eight trapped victims.
The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the details in a statement made available to newsmen on Thursday in Lagos.
Oke-Osanyintolu reported that the agency’s response team arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the alert, finding the building completely collapsed and several workers beneath the rubble.
“Following distress alerts at 11:09 a.m., LASEMA activated the State’s Emergency Response Plans from Agbowa and Alausa,” he stated.
“Upon arrival of the agency’s response teams at 11:09 a.m., it was discovered that a three-storey building with a penthouse collapsed on Thursday at No. 28, Baale Alayabiagba Street, Alayabiagba community, Ajegunle, Apapa area of Lagos.”
