The Lagos State Government has confirmed the arrest of three individuals for allegedly dumping refuse at an unauthorised site in the Ayobo area of the state.
The suspects, identified as Awosunle Akinola, 65; Adepeju Seun, 47; and Solamipe Akanwo, are all residents of Lagos.
Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the arrests in a post on his official X handle on Tuesday.
According to him: “The LAWMA Waste Infractions Surveillance and Investigation Team apprehended three individuals during an overnight operation for illegally disposing of waste at an unauthorised location in the Ayobo area of Lagos.
“The individuals have been transferred to the LAWMA legal team at the Oshodi Taskforce office for further legal proceedings. All identified black spots in the area have also been effectively minimised.”
The commissioner emphasised that the operation, which concluded in the early hours of Tuesday, is part of the state government’s ongoing drive to eliminate illegal waste dumping and promote cleaner, safer communities across Lagos.
