My dad inspired me to do the Kanu celebration – Ndidi
Super Eagles midfielder and captain Wilfred Ndidi has explained the inspiration behind his iconic celebration after scoring Nigeria’s second goal in the dramatic 3–2 victory over Tunisia.
Nigeria took the lead just before half-time through Victor Osimhen, before Ndidi and Ademola Lookman extended the advantage in the second half. Tunisia mounted a late comeback, scoring twice in the closing stages and pushing for an equaliser, but the Super Eagles held firm to seal the win.
Speaking to journalists after the match, Ndidi reflected on the moment, which marked his first goal for Nigeria in 10 years, and revealed the personal motivation behind his celebration.
“I just remembered my dad. My dad always talk about Kanu and all, and I saw the video, and said I would do that for him.”
The Besiktas midfielder described the goal and victory as especially meaningful after such a long wait.
“It was really special, after a decade, it was amazing, and we got the win, which is the most important.”
