Late Akran worked to preserve Badagry’s culture – Lagos Gov Sanwo-Olu
The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has paid tributes to the late Akran of Badagry and Permanent Vice Chairman of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs, De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I.
The Akran passed on at age 89.
In a statement he shared on Facebook, the governor said Akran served with wisdom, humility, and deep commitment to his people for nearly 49 years on the throne.
Sanwo-Olu eulogised the late monarch for working assiduously to preserve the culture of his people during his reign.
He said, “I received the sad news of the passing of the Oba of Badagry and Permanent Vice Chairman of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs, Oba Babatunde Akran, Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I, who joined his ancestors at the age of 89.
“For nearly 49 years on the throne, Oba Akran served with wisdom, humility, and deep commitment to his people.
“He was a former journalist who brought clarity and balance into his leadership as a traditional ruler, always working to preserve Badagry’s culture while also encouraging development.
“He united his people, promoted Badagry’s history and festivals, and gave his time selflessly to the growth of his community.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the royal family, the people of Badagry, and all who were close to him.
“I pray that God grants them the strength to bear this great loss, and that the soul of Oba Babatunde Akran rests in perfect peace.”
