Lagos Gov Sanwo-Olu pays tribute to late Ogun ex–First Lady, Lucia Onabanjo

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has described the late former First Lady of Ogun State, Mrs Lucia Onabanjo, as a woman whose life was marked by service, impact, and an enduring legacy.

Sanwo Olu, who also serves as Chairman of the South West Governors Forum, expressed his condolences to the Onabanjo family, as well as the government and people of Ogun State, over the passing of the centenarian.

Mrs Onabanjo, widow of the late Chief Olabisi Onabanjo, the first civilian governor of Ogun State, died on Monday at the age of 100.

The message of condolence was conveyed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Gboyega Akosile.

According to the governor, the late Mrs Onabanjo lived a fulfilled and impactful life defined by selfless service, humility and compassion, leaving behind values that will continue to inspire generations.

He noted that she was a devoted educationist who spent more than two decades as a teacher, positively influencing and mentoring countless young Nigerians in Lagos and Zaria through her commitment to learning and character building.

Sanwo Olu also acknowledged her stabilising and supportive role during the administration of her husband, describing her as a dependable partner who contributed meaningfully to the governance of Ogun State during the Second Republic from 1979 to 1983.

He added that she served the state with dignity and dedication as the wife of one of the most respected political leaders of her era, playing her part in supporting efforts to deliver democratic dividends to the people.

The Lagos State governor, on behalf of his wife, the government and people of the state, extended heartfelt sympathies to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, the state government and citizens, as well as members of the Onabanjo family.

He prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul and for divine strength and comfort for all who mourn her passing.
