Man arraigned for allegedly cutting partner’s finger in Lagos
Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, DSVA, has confirmed the arrest and arraignment of a man accused of severing his partner’s finger in a suspected domestic violence incident that drew attention on social media.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the agency said it became aware of the case through a viral video posted by a TikTok user and promptly reached out to the victim to provide support and ensure the matter was formally reported.
The victim had shared a distress video on March 22, stating that she was receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital while appealing for assistance.
She noted that she was unable to upload more graphic evidence due to platform restrictions and expressed frustration over what she initially perceived as a lack of response from authorities.
According to her account, the suspect allegedly attacked her at her residence, inflicted serious injuries, and fled with her child while continuing to issue threats.
“This has actually been going on for a long time… we don’t stay together… I stay on my own while he stay on his own,” she said.
Providing an update, the DSVA stated: “We became aware of the video and promptly established contact with the survivor and ensured that the case was formally reported to the appropriate authorities.”
Preliminary findings indicate that the incident occurred on March 21, 2026, and was reported at the FESTAC Police Station Tactical Squad.
“The incident… is currently being handled by the Family Support Unit, FESTAC Police Station,” the agency added.
The DSVA disclosed that the assault resulted “in severe injuries, including the loss of a finger,” noting that the suspect was subsequently apprehended and the case thoroughly investigated by law enforcement.
“On 25th March 2026, the case was charged to court at Court 6, MBA Ajegunle,” the statement said, adding that the suspect “has since been remanded at Kirikiri Maximum Security Custodial Centre pending further proceedings.”
The agency further revealed that the court granted the defendant bail in the sum of 200,000 with two sureties, while the next hearing has been fixed for April 29, 2026.
It added that the survivor has been referred for psychosocial support to aid her recovery and overall well-being.
