The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Lagos State chapter, has been thrown into fresh turmoil following the suspension of its secretary and other officials amid an ongoing leadership dispute.

The suspensions were announced after an emergency meeting of the association, as tensions continue to escalate within the state branch.

Sources within the association said the affected officials were accused of actions considered to be in violation of the association’s constitution, although details of the allegations were not immediately made public.

The development comes days after a separate leadership crisis in the Lagos branch led to the removal of the chairman and the installation of a successor, a move that has been contested by the ousted leadership.

The latest disciplinary measures have further deepened divisions within the association, with opposing factions insisting on the legality of their actions.

Efforts to resolve the dispute internally appear to have failed, raising concerns about stability within the state chapter of the medical body.

The crisis in Lagos mirrors broader tensions within the NMA at the national level, where disagreements over internal processes and leadership decisions have also sparked controversy.
