Sanwo-Olu okays N50,000 bonus for Lagos workers
Governor of Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved a N50,000 wage award for public sector workers in Lagos State as part of efforts to cushion the impact of rising living costs.
The announcement was made during the 2026 International Workers’ Day celebration held in Lagos, where the governor, represented by his deputy, said the payment would apply to all categories of workers for the month of May.
According to the state government, the wage award is a temporary financial relief aimed at supporting workers amid prevailing economic challenges, including inflation and increased cost of living.
The governor noted that the decision reflects the administration’s recognition of workers’ contributions to the development of the state.
“For the month of May, Lagos State Government has approved an additional N50,000 for all workers,” the governor stated, adding that the move is intended to ease economic pressure on the workforce.
Sanwo-Olu also commended civil servants for their dedication, describing them as the backbone of Lagos’ growth and resilience.
He acknowledged ongoing challenges such as housing and transportation, assuring that the government remains committed to addressing them.
The wage award comes amid broader concerns over economic hardship in Nigeria, with governments at various levels introducing measures to support workers and improve welfare.
