FG renames Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway after President Tinubu
The Federal Government has renamed the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway after President Bola Tinubu.
Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced the decision during an inspection of ongoing sections of the highway project.
According to Umahi, the road will now be known as the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Coastal Highway.
He said the renaming was approved by the Federal Executive Council in recognition of the administration’s infrastructure drive and the strategic importance of the project.
The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is one of the Federal Government’s flagship road projects and is designed to connect coastal states from Lagos to Cross River State.
Construction work is currently ongoing on different sections of the highway, with the government stating that the project is expected to improve transportation, trade and tourism along the coastal corridor.
The announcement has generated mixed reactions, with supporters describing the move as a recognition of the president’s role in the project, while critics argue that major public infrastructure should retain neutral national names.
The Federal Government has not indicated whether any other aspects of the project will be renamed following the decision.
