2027: Wike says he never promised to join APC
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said he never promised President Bola Tinubu that he would join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Wike made the clarification during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme.
The former Rivers State governor said his commitment was to support Tinubu’s bid for a second term in the 2027 presidential election and not to defect to the ruling party.
“I told them I would support the President right from the start. I never told Mr President I will join APC. Go and ask him,” Wike said.
The minister also dismissed suggestions that Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, could influence his decision to join the APC.
“If I want to join APC, it’s not people like Hope who will tell me to join APC,” he said.
Wike, who remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has continued to express support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election while maintaining his membership of the opposition party.
His comments come amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
