2027: Atiku says he will challenge Tinubu over economic hardship

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said he will continue to challenge President Bola Tinubu over what he described as the worsening economic hardship facing Nigerians.

Atiku, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress in the 2027 election, made the statement while criticising the Tinubu administration’s economic policies.

He accused the government of implementing policies that, in his view, have increased the financial pressure on Nigerians and pushed more people into poverty.

Atiku said he would continue to speak out against the administration and present alternative policy proposals ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He also criticised the rising cost of living, saying Nigerians were struggling with higher prices of essential goods and services.

The former vice president said the government should focus on measures that would reduce economic pressure on households and improve living conditions.

Atiku has repeatedly criticised the Tinubu administration over its handling of economic reforms, including the removal of the petrol subsidy and other measures affecting the cost of living.

The Tinubu administration has defended its economic reforms, arguing that they are necessary to address longstanding structural problems and put the economy on a more sustainable path.

The 2027 election is expected to feature competition among several presidential candidates and political parties.
