FG restricts okada, tricycles, truck parking on Lagos-Calabar highway

The Federal Government has announced restrictions on the use and activities of motorcycles, tricycles and other vehicles along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.

The government also banned illegal occupation of the highway corridor, shanties, truck parking, unauthorised U-turns, roadside hawking and animal grazing along the route.

The measures were announced as part of efforts to regulate activities and improve safety on the coastal highway.

The government directed that trucks and other heavy-duty vehicles must not park indiscriminately along the highway.

It also prohibited unauthorised U-turns and other activities considered capable of obstructing traffic or creating safety risks for road users.

Motorcycle and tricycle operators were similarly restricted from using designated sections of the highway.

The government further warned against the erection of structures and shanties within the highway corridor.

Other prohibited activities include roadside trading and the grazing of animals along the road.

Authorities are expected to enforce the restrictions along the affected sections of the highway.

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is a major federal road project linking Lagos with other coastal states in the southern part of the country.
