Lagos APC expels two former Assembly aspirants

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has expelled two former Lagos State House of Assembly aspirants, Ganiyu Egunjobi and Azeez Yusuf, over alleged anti-party activities and disloyalty.

The party announced the expulsion on Wednesday, following the decision of the two politicians to contest the 2027 Assembly election on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement.

Egunjobi, a former chairman of Agege Local Government Area, contested the APC primary for Agege Constituency I, while Yusuf contested the primary for Agege Constituency II.

Both men disputed the outcomes of the APC primaries and subsequently obtained the APM tickets for the two constituencies.

The APC said the two should have accepted the outcome of the internal elections or pursued the avenues of redress provided by the party and the law.

The state APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, said their decision to seek nomination from another party within the same electoral cycle amounted to a breach of the obligations of APC membership.

The party said it invoked Article 9(5)(II) of its constitution in expelling the two former members.

The APC also rejected their purported resignations, arguing that the resignations came after they had secured alternative platforms to contest the election.

However, Egunjobi and Yusuf disputed the expulsion, saying they had resigned from the APC in July 2026, weeks before the party announced their removal.

The duo said their departure followed what they described as grievances over the conduct of the APC primary elections and the party’s handling of their complaints.

They maintained that they had already joined the APM before the APC announced their expulsion.

The development is the latest fallout from the disputed APC nomination process in Agege ahead of the 2027 Lagos State House of Assembly election.
