Lagos police arrest man over viral video of toddler being beaten
A man captured in a viral video allegedly beating a toddler for failing to read has been arrested by the police in Lagos.
The footage, which circulated widely on social media, showed the man repeatedly striking the child on the head and body with what appeared to be a charger cable.
The incident sparked reactions on social media, with calls for the suspect to be arrested and investigated.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency confirmed the arrest on Wednesday, September 23, after receiving a report of the incident and contacting the child’s mother.
The agency said the matter was initially reported at Imota Police Station before being escalated for further investigation.
It added that the child and the mother had been referred to a general hospital for medical attention and further assessment.
The agency said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
