2027: ADC campaign says Atiku will be available to lead Nigeria
The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council has said its candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, would maintain a physically present presidency if elected in the 2027 election.
The council made the position known on Monday in Abuja through its Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, who spoke after receiving members of the Atiku Unity Movement led by its leader, Francis Eburuwe.
Ologbondiyan said the country needed a president who would be available to respond to major national challenges and take decisions on matters requiring urgent attention.
“The country needs a President who understands the challenges confronting Nigerians and is physically available to respond to the demands of governance,” he said.
He said the experience of the past three years had, in his view, underscored the need for an accessible and responsive presidency.
Ologbondiyan also referred to Atiku’s position during the 2023 presidential campaign on the gradual removal of fuel subsidy, saying the former vice president had advocated a phased approach to limit its effect on Nigerians.
He said Atiku’s current economic proposals include measures targeted at reducing energy and living costs.
One of the proposals cited was a production-based intervention for petroleum products refined in Nigeria, subject to spending limits, National Assembly approval and independent audits.
Earlier, Eburuwe said members of the Atiku Unity Movement would support Atiku’s presidential bid and work with the ADC campaign ahead of the 2027 election.
The group said it would mobilise supporters across the country as preparations for the election continue.
