The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency has responded to a fire outbreak and recovered two broken-down tankers along the Mushin-Ilasa-Oshodi corridor.

The agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, disclosed this in a statement, noting that LASEMA carried out three emergency interventions along the corridor.

Oke-Osanyintolu said the first incident occurred at No. 5 Balogun Street, Ilasa, where the agency’s Eagle Response Team from Cappa Base responded to a fire alert at about 1:05pm.

He said responders found a bungalow with some rooms already engulfed in flames, while preliminary findings indicated that the fire was caused by a power surge.

According to him, the LASEMA Response Unit Fire Unit and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service collaborated with the Eagle Team to put out the fire, which affected three rooms.

“The inferno which affected three rooms was successfully put out, dampening down operations concluded and its spread to nearby buildings effectively prevented. Fortunately, no loss of life or injury was recorded in the incident,” he said.

The permanent secretary said the same team was later deployed to Mushin Bus Stop, inward Oshodi, following a report of a broken-down tanker around 1:49pm.

He said the tanker, which was conveying black oil, developed a mechanical fault and obstructed traffic, causing a build-up along the route.

Oke-Osanyintolu said the Eagle Team diverted traffic while awaiting the arrival of LASEMA’s heavy-duty recovery equipment, Super Metro.

He said the tanker was subsequently recovered and parked at a lay-by, restoring free movement along the corridor.

He added that another empty tanker with an unknown registration number broke down at Ojuwoye Bus Stop, inward Oshodi, around 4:41pm.

According to him, LASEMA, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and the Nigeria Police Force managed traffic at the scene while recovery operations were activated.

He said the tanker was also recovered with the aid of Super Metro and safely parked, restoring traffic flow.

Oke-Osanyintolu said no casualty or loss of life was recorded in any of the three incidents.

He urged residents to observe safety precautions, particularly when handling electrical appliances, while advising motorists to maintain their vehicles regularly to prevent mechanical failures.

He also urged residents to report emergencies through the toll-free lines 767 and 112.
