The Lagos State Government has announced the temporary closure of Freedom Park on Lagos Island to allow for renovation, fumigation and other maintenance works.

The closure, which began on Monday, October 5, will last until Sunday, October 11, 2026.

The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture disclosed this in a statement signed by its Permanent Secretary, Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila.

The ministry said the temporary shutdown would enable the government to carry out scheduled maintenance and upgrade works at the historic facility.

According to the statement, the exercise is aimed at improving the park’s facilities, enhancing visitors’ experience and preserving the environment.

The management of Freedom Park also said the works would include comprehensive cleaning, fumigation, beautification and general maintenance of the facility.

It added that some areas and services would also be improved to provide greater comfort and convenience for members of the public.

The ministry assured residents and visitors that the park would reopen immediately after the maintenance exercise is completed.

Oyekan-Ismaila apologised for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure and appealed to members of the public for their understanding.

Freedom Park, located on Lagos Island, is a major recreational and cultural facility that hosts various events and activities.
