Lagos Announces Traffic Diversion on Independence Bridge for Repairs
The Lagos State Government has announced a traffic diversion on Independence Bridge as the Federal Ministry of Works prepares to carry out urgent repairs on the bridge.
The repair work is scheduled to begin on Friday, October 16, at night and continue throughout Saturday, October 17, and Sunday, October 18, 2026.
The state Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the repairs would affect both inbound and outbound lanes of the bridge.
According to the government, the exercise will involve the partial closure of sections of the bridge in phases, with at least one lane remaining open to allow motorists to reach their destinations.
The government advised motorists to plan their journeys ahead of the repair work and consider alternative routes to avoid delays.
It also said officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would be deployed to manage traffic and minimise inconvenience to road users.
Motorists were urged to remain patient, obey traffic regulations and cooperate with traffic officials throughout the repair period.
