Lagos Police Detain Four Officers, Disband Tactical Team
The Lagos State Police Command has detained four officers and disbanded its Immortal Tactical Team in Ikorodu following a viral video allegedly showing police personnel harassing a young man.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, saying the officers had been identified and detained pending disciplinary proceedings.
According to her, the officers were attached to the tactical team operating in Ikorodu, where the incident occurred in the Odogunyan area.
Adebisi said the command launched an investigation after receiving the video and subsequently summoned the officers to the office of the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai.
She explained that the decision to detain the officers and disband the team was taken after the investigation identified the personnel involved.
The spokesperson confirmed that all four officers were in custody, although only three were present during the briefing.
She said the officers would face further inquiries and appropriate disciplinary action if found culpable.
Adebisi reiterated the command’s position against police misconduct, stressing that officers were expected to discharge their duties with integrity and humility.
She also urged residents to report cases of police misconduct and commended members of the public for providing information that helped identify the officers.
The command assured residents that it would not tolerate impunity among its personnel and that officers found to have violated established directives would face appropriate consequences.
The detained officers remain in custody as investigations and disciplinary proceedings continue.
