Oshiomhole Dismisses Amaechi, Says He Won’t Waste Time Discussing Him
Senator Adams Oshiomhole has dismissed former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, saying he would not waste his time discussing the former Minister of Transportation.
Oshiomhole made the remark during an interview on TVC on Wednesday while reacting to Amaechi’s comments about the challenges facing President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Amaechi had reportedly argued that Tinubu faced more challengers from the South, while former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar had fewer opponents because he was from the North.
Reacting, Oshiomhole questioned Amaechi’s political consistency, citing his previous disagreement with Atiku over the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary.
“If you know Amaechi, you won’t waste airtime talking about him,” the senator said.
He alleged that Amaechi had previously described the process that produced Atiku as the ADC presidential candidate as fraudulent and challenged his emergence in court.
Oshiomhole also claimed that the disagreement was later followed by efforts to reach an understanding between the two politicians.
The former Edo State governor further questioned Amaechi’s political history, referring to the Supreme Court judgment that paved the way for his emergence as Rivers State governor and his subsequent appointment as Minister of Transportation by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.
He also criticised Amaechi’s past remarks about other politicians, including his description of some political figures as ethnic champions.
Oshiomhole argued that Amaechi’s previous statements contradicted his current political positions and said he would not spend time responding to his comments.
The exchange comes amid growing political activity ahead of the 2027 general election, with leaders of different parties trading criticisms over their records and positions on national issues.
