Oshiomhole: Amaechi Accused Atiku of Rigging ADC Presidential Primary
Senator Adams Oshiomhole has accused the African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, of previously describing the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, as a thief and election rigger.
Oshiomhole made the allegation on Saturday during President Bola Tinubu’s campaign rally in Rivers State.
The former Edo State governor said Amaechi had challenged Atiku’s emergence as the ADC presidential candidate, alleging that the former Vice-President did not win the party’s primary election fairly.
According to Oshiomhole, Amaechi had made the allegation in court documents, insisting that his current political alliance with Atiku contradicted his earlier position.
“Amaechi described his boss as a thief. He said on paper before the court that Atiku did not win the primaries, that Atiku rigged the primaries. So if we call Atiku a rigger, we are quoting Amaechi, and these are court documents,” he said.
Oshiomhole also criticised Amaechi for accepting to serve as Atiku’s running mate despite his alleged previous accusations against the former Vice-President.
“What did the thief offer him for running mate? Amaechi was ready to eat his vomit and become the vice-president of a candidate that is dead on arrival,” he added.
The senator further questioned Amaechi’s political record, recalling his emergence as Rivers State governor and his role as Director-General of the campaign that brought former President Muhammadu Buhari to power.
He also accused Amaechi of withdrawing from a political contest in Rivers State after facing opposition from forces loyal to the then-governor, Nyesom Wike.
The comments came amid growing exchanges between members of the ruling APC and opposition politicians ahead of the 2027 general election.
