Ivan Rakitic, is set to move to former club Sevilla after Barcelona accepted the former’s €1.8m bid (plus €9m in variables) for the midfielder.
“FC Barcelona publicly express their gratitude to Rakitic for his commitment and dedication and wish him good luck and success in the future,” Barca said in a statement.
Rakitic, 32, returns to Sevilla following a three-year spell at the Catalan Giants during which he won one Champions League cup, four La Liga titles and four Copa Del Rey titles.
The Croatian playmaker is among players who are reportedly absent from new coach Ronald Koeman’s plans at Barcelona.
Meanwhile, the battle between Messi and Barcelona has continued, with the forward skipping the team’s first pre-season training session on Monday.
Multiple outlets suggest Messi will attempt to force through a transfer, a move which may land both parties in court.
