Afrobasket: Tinubu hails D’Tigress for reaching final

President Bola Tinubu has hailed the D’Tigress for their “discipline, focus and team spirit” at the 2025 Women’s Afrobasket tournament.
In a statement shared on his official X, the president commended the team’s resilience and dominance throughout the competition.
On Saturday, August 2, Nigeria defeated Senegal 75-68 in the semi-final of the competition held in Cote d’Ivoire.
Tinubu said “I salute the incredible discipline, focus, and team spirit of D’Tigress at this year’s AfroBasket tournament.
They have not only carried our flag high but earned global respect for Nigerian excellence, our players and team officials…”
He also lauded D’Tigress head coach, Rena Wakama, for inspiring the team to new heights.
“A special commendation to Coach Rena Wakama, our first female Head Coach, whose leadership and experience—both on the court and now from the bench—continue to inspire D’Tigress to new heights in this highly competitive sport.”
The president further assured D’Tigress of the Nation’s support as the team pursues its fifth consecutive AfroBasket title and seventh overall.
D’Tigress will face Mali in the final of the competition, billed for 7 pm on Sunday.
