The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Lagos State has urged eligible residents to take part in the second phase of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, exercise.

The appeal was made in a statement issued on Thursday by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, for Lagos State, Ayobami Salami.

INEC recently concluded the first phase of the nationwide voter registration, which commenced on August 18, 2025, and ended on December 10, 2025.

Salami encouraged Lagos residents who are yet to register to utilise the second phase of the exercise, which began on January 5, 2026, and is currently taking place across all local government areas as well as at INEC’s state headquarters.

He said the commission remains committed to increasing voter participation, noting that the eligibility requirements and registration timeline remain unchanged.

“We are calling on Lagos residents to seize this opportunity to register and fulfil their civic responsibility. From February 2026, the registration process will transition to a rotational system across Registration Areas to further enhance accessibility and convenience,” Salami stated.

The REC added that INEC personnel are fully prepared to ensure the exercise runs smoothly and transparently, while expressing concern over the relatively low turnout recorded so far

He disclosed that the second phase of the CVR will continue until April 17, 2026, and warned that any form of disorder or misconduct at registration centres would not be tolerated.
