A four-year-old child, his mother and 12 other passengers escaped death on Wednesday when a fully loaded Mazda commercial bus, with registration number AKD 509 XL, overturned along Coaster Road, opposite Lafiaji inward Okun Ajah, Lagos.

Witnesses said the crash was dramatic, as the bus reportedly somersaulted before landing on its side, leaving several passengers trapped inside the wreckage.

Onlookers described the survival of the young boy, his mother and other occupants as nothing short of divine intervention.

Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, were swiftly deployed to the scene, where they rescued the victims and coordinated emergency medical response.

The child, his mother and two other injured passengers were taken to the Mother and Child Hospital, Abraham Adesanya, while others received treatment at nearby medical facilities with the assistance of Good Samaritans.

The cause of the accident has yet to be established, while the incident has been transferred to the Abraham Adesanya Police Division for further investigation.

Reacting to the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, sympathised with the victims and their families.

He cautioned commercial drivers against reckless behaviour and urged all road users to exercise discipline and place the safety of human lives above all else.
