Lagos Police Command confirms death of Festac DPO, CSP Matilda Ngbaronye
The Lagos State Police Command has officially confirmed the death of Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP Matilda Umiah Ngbaronye, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of the Festac Division, who died Friday, October 24, 2025.
According to an official statement issued on Saturday, CSP Ngbaronye died during surgery at the Mayriamville Medical Centre in Bode Thomas, Surulere.
The statement described her death as a sad loss for the command, stressing that the late officer was well respected for her professionalism, honesty, and devotion to duty.
“The Lagos State Police Command deeply regrets to announce the passing of the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Festac Division, CSP Matilda Ngbaronye, who sadly passed away after undergoing surgery at Mayriamville Medical Centre, Bode Thomas, Surulere, Lagos State, on Friday, October 24, 2025,” the statement read in part.
The command lauded the late CSP for her exceptional sense of duty, describing her as “a truly upright and dedicated officer” whose humane approach to policing fostered strong relationships between the Force and the communities she served.
“Until her passing, she was known for her diligence, discipline, and commitment to duty. Her friendly disposition and humane approach to policing greatly helped to bridge the gap between the Police and the public she dutifully served. At no time was she found wanting in the discharge of her responsibilities,” the statement added.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, expressed deep sorrow over the development, saying the news of Ngbaronye’s death came as a rude shock to the entire Command.
Jimoh, on behalf of the officers and men of the Command, extended condolences to the deceased’s family and her aged mother, describing her passing as “an irreparable loss.”
He also disclosed that he had personally reached out to her husband and elder brother, who is a priest, to convey the command’s sympathies and offer support to the grieving family.
The statement noted that details of the burial arrangements would be announced later.
