The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed that one person died and two others were injured following a gas tanker explosion at Ologuro Bus Stop, opposite Total Filling Station in Sangotedo, Lagos.

The agency disclosed this in a statement signed by its Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu on Saturday.

According to LASEMA, the incident occurred after a tipper truck with no identified registration number rammed into a gas tanker from behind, triggering a fire outbreak.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the crash was caused by overspeeding and reckless driving by the tipper truck driver, who died from the impact.

Two adult females sustained minor injuries and received immediate first aid from officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS).

LASEMA also reported that the fire engulfed four roadside shops, causing significant damage. The contents of the tanker remain trapped, while recovery operations are ongoing.

Emergency responders, including LASEMA’s Shark Team, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and LASAMBUS, swiftly contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings.

The agency confirmed that the fire has been brought under control and assured that further updates will be provided as recovery efforts continue.
