Lagos taskforce reacts to alleged unjust arrest during demolition exercise

The Lagos State Taskforce has refuted viral claims of unjust arrests following a recent demolition exercise conducted by the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) in the FESTAC Town area.
This was contained in a statement by the director of Public Affairs, Abdulraheem Gbadeyan, Tuesday, to address a misleading video circulating online, in which a woman identifying herself as “Oneway” alleged that her husband and others were wrongly detained during the FHA operation at 6th Avenue, Ifanyi Close.
The agency stated that the arrested individuals were not detained unjustly, but were apprehended for attacking Taskforce officials with stones and other dangerous objects.
Verified reports from the scene indicate that the woman’s husband was the leader of the assault who mobilized others to obstruct the lawful demolition of structures that had encroached on FHA property.
The taskforce further stated that the suspects initially attempted to bribe the demolition team to halt the exercise. When the financial inducement failed, they resorted to violence, using stones, iron rods, and other objects to attack the taskforce officers who were on ground to provide security support and maintain law and order.
Normalcy was reportedly restored immediately after the arrests.
