No cult clash in Lagos — Police intensify patrols to maintain order

The Lagos State Police Command has assured residents of safety, dismissing reports of a planned cult attack in parts of the state.

The clarification was issued on Monday following the circulation of messages alleging a possible cult-related attack in areas including Shitta, Akerele, Itire/Aguda and the Ishaga axis.

In a statement, the Command said it had taken proactive measures to prevent any breakdown of law and order in the affected communities and adjoining areas.

It noted that security personnel and operational assets were immediately deployed to the locations after the initial report emerged.

The Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, was said to have directed intensified patrols, strategic positioning of officers and increased police visibility across the identified flashpoints.

According to the Command, the affected areas are secure, with adequate security arrangements in place to deter unlawful gatherings and criminal activities.

The police further reassured residents that there is no cause for alarm, urging them to go about their normal activities without fear.

“The Command therefore wishes to reassure members of the public that there is no cause for alarm.

“Residents are encouraged to go about their lawful duties without fear or apprehension, as the Police and other security agencies remain fully on ground and committed to maintaining peace and order,” the statement said.

While acknowledging public concerns, the Command advised residents to disregard unverified reports capable of creating panic and to rely on credible information from official sources.

Residents were also urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.

“The Command acknowledges the concerns raised, members of the public are advised to disregard unverified rumours capable of creating panic and instead rely on credible information from official sources,” the statement added.

The Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring that all necessary steps will continue to be taken to ensure peace across the state.
