The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed a swift and intelligence-driven response to a security threat issued against some private schools in Ikeja, assuring the public that no danger was found and that the facilities remain safe.

In a statement issued on Thursday via its official X handle, the Command disclosed that the incident occurred on Tuesday, January 21, 2026, at about 4:00 p.m., when the Human Resources Manager and Chief Security Officer of the affected schools separately reported receiving threatening WhatsApp messages from the same unidentified number.

The statement, signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the reports were made at the Ikeja Divisional Police Headquarters.

Following the alerts, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, immediately mobilised security resources and personally led a team of operatives to the schools. The team comprised officers from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit, the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, and other tactical formations.

According to the Command, a detailed and methodical search was carried out across the entire school environment, including classrooms, offices, halls, playgrounds and surrounding areas, to eliminate the possibility of improvised explosive devices or other hazardous materials.

The police said the exercise yielded no explosive or suspicious items, after which the schools were declared safe for academic and administrative activities to continue.

The statement further revealed that CP Jimoh has ordered an intensified investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for issuing the threat, stressing that they would be prosecuted in line with the law.

To strengthen security, combined teams of police personnel have been permanently deployed to the affected schools to provide round-the-clock protection for students, staff and school facilities.

The Lagos State Police Command reassured parents, guardians, school authorities and residents of its continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state, urging members of the public to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding.

It also encouraged the prompt reporting of any suspicious activities through the nearest police station or the Command’s emergency lines: 07061019374, 08065154338, 08063299264, 08039344870 and 09168630929.
