The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into a viral video accusing operatives of the Lagos State Task Force, allegedly led by CSP Adetayo Akerele, of unlawfully seizing vehicles and fabricating traffic violations to extort money from motorists.

The video, which began circulating widely on Saturday, appears to show what the narrator describes as the alleged method used by the officers.

According to the claims made in the footage, a task force operative allegedly took control of a driver’s vehicle and deliberately repositioned it on a one-way road to create the impression that the motorist had violated traffic regulations before demanding payment.’

In the video, a male voice claimed he was forced to pay N150,000 to prevent the vehicle from being impounded.

He further alleged that other motorists often pay similar amounts to avoid further legal action.

Reacting to the development, the Lagos State Police Command acknowledged the viral video through a post on its official account on X.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, ordered a comprehensive and urgent investigation into the allegations.

“The attention of the Lagos State Police Command has been drawn to the video currently circulating online.

“The Commissioner of Police has ordered an immediate investigation into the matter.

“The Command appreciates members of the public for bringing this to our attention and assures that appropriate action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation,” the statement said.
