CACOVID to donate N100bn for arms procurement, N150bn on youth empowerment

The Coalition Against COVID-19 (CACOVID) has committed to rebuild damaged police stations and donate N100 billion for arms procurement to strengthen security in the country.
Co-Chair CACOVID and Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mr. Godwin Emefiele disclosed this at a press briefing in Lagos while giving an account of the activities of the group at the office of the CBN.
The group stated that it had spent N43.272 billion on food relief as palliatives and acquisition of medical equipment and supplies among other interventions.
He said, “CACOVID has committed to fully rehabilitate all 44 damaged and destroyed police stations nationwide in a bid to restore provision of security in affected locations.
“To further strengthen the security apparatus in the country, CACOVID has committed to provide over N100bn to procure equipment and gadgets for the Nigerian Police Force over the next two years; as our contribution to fully modernise the Nigerian Police.”
Emefiele also said over N150bn would be deployed towards the set up and implementation of the youth development programme.
He stated that a preliminary analysis by CACOVID had indicated that unemployment among the youth is a major factor of unrest in the country.
The Group had committed to create a high impact youth development programme that would provide technical and vocational education to over four million Nigerian youths over the next five years.
Emefiele said over N25bn would be used to support the entrepreneurial pursuits of selected students on conclusion of the programme.
