2027: Atiku More Experienced Than Tinubu, Peter Obi – Dele Momodu
Dele Momodu
A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has described former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar as more experienced than President Bola Tinubu and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Momodu made the assessment on Wednesday during an interview on Eagle 102.5 FM, Ilese-Ijebu, Ogun State.
He argued that Atiku’s experience in federal government and long involvement in national politics distinguished him from the other two politicians.
“If you look at the antecedents of the three major candidates, between Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, you will see that Atiku is the most experienced. He has managed our country at the highest level,” Momodu said.
He traced Atiku’s political journey to 1992, when he contested the Social Democratic Party presidential primary against the late Moshood Abiola before stepping down for him.
According to Momodu, Atiku’s decision to accept the outcome without creating a political crisis demonstrated his democratic credentials.
He also noted that Atiku was among the founding members of the Peoples Democratic Party and served as vice-president under former President Olusegun Obasanjo from 1999 to 2007.
Comparing Atiku with Obi, Momodu said the latter’s experience was largely based on his tenure as governor of Anambra State, while Atiku had served at the highest level of the federal government.
“Peter Obi has tried his best in Anambra, while Atiku’s best is at the level of vice president controlling the economy of Nigeria. The difference is clear. He has matured in experience and exposure,” he said.
Momodu also criticised Tinubu’s leadership, arguing that his experience before becoming president was largely concentrated in Lagos State.
“What I’m trying to say is that Tinubu’s experience was limited to Lagos, and that is why when he became president, he thought Nigeria was Lagos. And he has found out now that Nigeria is not Lagos,” he said.
The ADC chieftain further faulted the administration’s economic performance, saying Nigerians were yet to experience the prosperity promised by the government.
He called on Tinubu to step aside, arguing that the country needed a different approach to governance.
“Well, we are yet to see that prosperity, and if yesterday would determine today and tomorrow, it is obvious that Tinubu should retire now and let someone else do it,” Momodu added.
