2027: Lagos APC responds to Rhodes-Vivour’s Yoruba language comments
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has responded to comments by the African Democratic Congress governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, on his efforts to learn Yoruba.
The APC said learning the Yoruba language alone should not be presented as sufficient qualification for governing Lagos State.
The party made the statement in reaction to remarks by Rhodes-Vivour, who has spoken about his efforts to improve his knowledge of Yoruba ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The APC urged voters to assess governorship candidates based on their policies, experience, understanding of the state and proposed approach to governance.
The party also questioned whether knowledge of the language should be a major consideration in determining who governs the state.
Rhodes-Vivour, a former Labour Party governorship candidate in the 2023 election, is expected to contest the 2027 Lagos governorship election on the ADC platform.
The development comes as political parties and candidates continue preparations for the 2027 elections, with issues including identity, governance, development and political experience featuring in public debates.
