2027: NDC candidate accuses LASAA of selective removal of campaign banners

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Surulere Federal Constituency I, Dr Adefolaseye Adebayo, has accused the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA) of selectively removing her campaign banners while leaving those belonging to candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Adebayo, a medical surgeon, made the allegation during an interview on Channels Television, following the removal of more than 50 of her campaign banners in parts of Surulere.

She said supporters first alerted her that LASAA officials were removing her campaign materials from different locations in the constituency.

According to her, she later went to the affected areas and confronted the officials, who identified themselves as LASAA personnel.

Adebayo said the officials told her that the streetlight poles carrying the banners belonged to the Lagos State Government and had been allocated to approved outdoor advertising practitioners.

However, she alleged that the explanation did not account for why some APC campaign materials remained at locations where her banners had been removed.

She cited one location where her banner was taken down while banners belonging to other political candidates remained in place.

The NDC candidate described the development as political victimisation and alleged that opposition campaign materials were being treated differently.

Adebayo said she had decided not to take legal action against LASAA, opting instead to replace the removed banners.

She also called for equal treatment of political candidates as parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections.

LASAA is responsible for regulating outdoor advertising and signage across Lagos State. The agency has not, in the reports available, issued a detailed public response to Adebayo’s allegation of selective enforcement.
