The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned that no Nigerian should be disenfranchised because of the late arrival of election materials during the 2027 general elections.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, gave the assurance on Thursday while inaugurating the Electoral Logistics Committee (ELOC) at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

Amupitan said effective planning and coordination were essential to ensuring the timely and secure distribution of electoral materials across the country.

He described logistics as a critical component of the electoral process, noting that the credibility of an election depended partly on whether voting materials and other essential resources arrived at polling units on time.

The INEC chairman said the commission was taking early steps to address logistical challenges ahead of the 2027 polls.

He explained that Nigeria’s diverse geographical terrain, ranging from the creeks of the Niger Delta to the arid northern regions, required a flexible and reliable distribution system.

Amupitan said the committee would assess logistics requirements, examine the readiness of warehouses, vehicles and transport hubs, and identify gaps that could affect the movement of electoral materials.

It is also expected to monitor compliance with approved delivery schedules and develop measures to address transportation bottlenecks, shortages and security threats.

The committee will work with relevant government agencies, security organisations and transport stakeholders to ensure the smooth movement of sensitive and non-sensitive election materials.

Amupitan urged members to approach the assignment with commitment, stressing that preparations for the 2027 general election must begin early.

He described the election as “a marathon, not a sprint.”

In her remarks, the committee’s chairperson, retired Rear Admiral Jamila Abubakar-Sadiq, said effective logistics management was essential to electoral integrity and public confidence.

She identified transportation planning, security arrangements and the assessment of difficult terrain as key areas the committee would address.
