A Magistrate Court sitting in Surulere on Thursday remanded one Ifeanyi Ndieze, accused of having carnal knowledge of a three-year old toddler in church.

The Magistrate, Mrs. M. I. Dan-Oni, said she needed advice from the State Director of Public Prosecution, so the court could not hear the plea of the defendant.

Dan-Oni ordered that the suspect be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre while she awaited the DPP’s advice. She also instructed the prosecution counsel to duplicate the case file and send a copy to the DPP.

The Magistrate adjourned the court’s ruling on the case to December 2, 2020.

The Prosecutor, Sergeant Courage Ekhueorohan, had earlier brought an accusation of defilement against the suspect.

According to him, the defendant had inserted his fingers into the private part of his three-year old victim in church on the pretext of playing with her.

The prosecution said the the mother of the girl had reported the incident, leading to the defendant’s arrest.

Ndieze’s offence contravenes Section 135 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
