NEC says lockdown last resort to curtail Covid-19 second wave

The National Economic Council (NEC) says the country will have to undergo another lockdown, which is the last resort, if precautions are not taken.
This was made known by the Plateau State Governor, Gov. Simon Lalong, after after a virtual NEC meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The Council expressed concern over the spike in the number of Covid-19 cases in recent times and a possible regression into uncontrollabe situation if laid down protocols and conditions are not strictly observed.
It advised states to lay emphasis on the implementation and enforcement of some of the protocols earlier started in the first phase of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Otherwise, we have to resort to the last aspect, of course everybody knows, going back to lockdown again which is not anybody’s doing.
“But then, let’s all go back and observe most of the protocols that we have to curtail the further spread of COVID-19,’’ he said.
The Council noted that the country is now experiencing a huge resurgence of COVID-19 patients needing intensive care, with the existing health facilities becoming overwhelmed.
