 Three policemen killed during attack on police station, Delta

Unknown gunmen in the early hours of Friday attacked the Umutu police station, Delta state, leaving two policemen dead and others injured.

While two of the policemen died during an exchange of fire with the criminals, one of the officers whose high blood pressure was triggered during the attack later died in the hospital.

According to a statement issued by spokesman of the Delta state police command, Edafe Bright, the gunmen at about 1.30 am on Friday, May 28, stormed the station and shot sporadically.

It added that the gunmen who came with the intention of causing mayhem, burning down the station and carting away arms and ammunition were repelled during the attack and normalcy has been restored.

Governor Okowa of Delta recently lamented over the continuous attack on police facilities in the state.

Recall that a policeman was killed as some yet-to-be-identified gunmen, on Wednesday morning, May 26 attacked a routine police patrol team and set their van on fire in the state.

The incident occurred along Otulu Junction, Akwukwu-Igbo, Aniocha North local government area causing panic among residents.

Also, three policemen were killed three weeks ago during an attack on Nsukwa police divisional headquarters in Aniocha South local government area of Delta state.
