A female member of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, MFM, has been killed in a lone-vehicle accident at the NYSC Bus-Stop, inward Igando, Lagos, after she was struck by a Mercedes-Benz car whose driver reportedly fled the scene.

The tragic incident, which occurred in the Igando area of Lagos State, was confirmed in a statement issued by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA.

According to the statement released by LASTMA, the deceased was on her way to a church service at the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, MFM Church, Igando, when she was fatally hit by a Mercedes-Benz C-300.

Reports indicated that the woman was using the designated pedestrian corridor when the vehicle, under circumstances yet to be fully determined, veered into her path, leading to fatal injuries.

LASTMA officials said operatives stationed along the Igando axis responded promptly after receiving distress alerts. The officers immediately secured the scene, cordoned off the affected area to prevent secondary accidents, and regulated traffic movement to ensure the safety of other road users while emergency protocols were activated.

In what the agency described as a condemnable act, the driver of the Mercedes-Benz reportedly absconded from the scene upon realising the severity of the incident. LASTMA noted that the driver’s action constituted a serious breach of legal and civic responsibilities expected of motorists involved in traffic crashes.

The accident vehicle was later recovered and evacuated from the roadway through a joint operation involving LASTMA personnel and officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Igando Division. This intervention, the agency said, helped restore normal vehicular movement and public order in the area.

The statement further revealed a heartbreaking development at the MFM Church, where the deceased’s husband was already present for the worship service when news of the accident broke. Church members and the victim’s husband reportedly proceeded to the scene, where the remains of the deceased were respectfully conveyed for necessary rites.

Investigations into the cause of the accident have since been taken over by the police, with authorities expected to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and take appropriate legal action against the fleeing driver in line with existing traffic and criminal laws.

Reacting to the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed deep sympathy with the bereaved family and the MFM Church community.

He prayed that “Almighty God grant the family and the church the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” describing the incident as a painful reminder of the consequences of traffic violations.

Bakare-Oki also reaffirmed LASTMA’s commitment to safeguarding lives on Lagos roads, stressing that the outcome of the police investigation would guide further government action.

He urged motorists to exercise caution at all times, obey speed limits, and show utmost respect for pedestrian rights to prevent avoidable tragedies.
