EFCC Arrests 21 Suspects, Recovers Five Exotic Cars in Lagos Raid
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 21 suspected cybercrime fraudsters and recovered five exotic cars during a sting operation at Applewood Estate, Orchid Road, Lekki, Lagos State.
The operation was carried out around 5am on Monday, October 26, 2026, by operatives of the commission’s Lagos Directorate 1.
The EFCC said the suspects were allegedly involved in defrauding unsuspecting victims through gift cards, cryptocurrency transactions and international money transfers while impersonating other individuals.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the commission’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, said the arrests followed surveillance and reconnaissance of the suspects’ activities before the operation.
According to the commission, preliminary investigations implicated 19 of the 21 suspects, while the remaining two were released.
The EFCC added that the 19 suspects would be arraigned in court.
The commission also addressed reports surrounding the detention of a young woman during the operation, saying she allegedly attempted to alert the suspects by making telephone calls.
Oyewale said the woman was temporarily held and her phone confiscated until the operation was concluded. He added that the device was subsequently returned to her.
The anti-graft agency maintained that its operatives conducted the operation professionally, denying allegations of harassment, intimidation or unlawful arrests.
The EFCC urged Nigerians to support its efforts to combat economic and financial crimes, warning that cybercrime activities damage the country’s reputation.
The operation comes amid renewed efforts by the commission to clamp down on suspected internet fraud and other financial crimes across the country.
