Ibrahim Gusau resigns as NFF president amid football crisis

Ibrahim Musa Gusau has resigned as president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), ending his tenure as the head of the country’s football governing body.

Gusau announced his resignation on Thursday during a press conference in Abuja.

The development comes amid growing criticism of the NFF over the recent performances of Nigeria’s national teams.

Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup has increased pressure on the federation, while other setbacks involving the national teams have also raised concerns over the administration of football in the country.

Gusau said he had communicated his decision to members of the NFF Executive Committee and advised those who wished to leave with him to also consider resigning.

His resignation is expected to have implications for the leadership structure of the federation and its future electoral process.

Gusau was elected NFF president in 2022, succeeding Amaju Pinnick.
