Waste Disposal: Many Lagosians Refuse to Pay for Collection – Commissioner
Tokunbo Wahab
The Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources has said some residents are unwilling to pay for waste collection services despite generating waste in their homes and businesses.
The commissioner said the attitude was one of the challenges affecting effective waste management in the state, noting that some residents expected waste to be collected without paying the Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators responsible for the service.
He said residents needed to take responsibility for the waste they generated by paying for its collection and ensuring proper disposal.
The commissioner also stressed the need for greater cooperation between residents, waste collectors and relevant government agencies to improve waste management across Lagos.
The comments come amid concerns over waste disposal and collection in parts of the state, with authorities urging residents to avoid dumping refuse indiscriminately.
