Lagos warns motorists over fake traffic fine messages
The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has warned motorists and members of the public against fraudulent text messages and malicious links claiming that recipients have committed traffic offences.
The ministry said the messages were fraudulent and could be used to deceive motorists into disclosing personal and banking information or making payments through unauthorised platforms.
It advised motorists not to click on links contained in unsolicited messages, share sensitive information or make payments through third-party platforms.
The ministry also warned against websites and messages offering purported discounts on traffic penalties.
It clarified that Lagos State does not offer discounts on statutory traffic fines, adding that approved penalties are fixed.
Motorists were advised to independently verify traffic tickets and vehicle-related information through the state’s approved platforms rather than using links contained in suspicious messages.
The ministry said traffic tickets can be verified through the Lagos State Traffic Management Solutions portal, while vehicle-related bills can be checked through the PAYVIS platform.
The warning comes amid reports of fraudulent messages being circulated to motorists and other members of the public, with scammers allegedly using traffic violation notices to obtain sensitive information.
The ministry urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious messages or payment requests to the appropriate authorities.
