LAWMA clears illegal traders from TBS, National Theatre axis

The Lagos Waste Management Authority has cleared illegal street traders from road corridors and unauthorised locations around Tafawa Balewa Square and the Costain Under Bridge/National Theatre axis.

The operation was carried out in collaboration with officials of the Kick Against Indiscipline as part of enforcement against street trading in the affected areas.

The traders were dislodged from road corridors and walkways where their activities were obstructing pedestrian and vehicular movement.

LAWMA officials also warned traders against returning to the affected locations and directed them to operate only in designated trading areas.

The agency said a follow-up operation was conducted on Wednesday to prevent traders from reoccupying the cleared areas.

During the exercise, officials found some traders attempting to return to the road corridors and ordered them to vacate the locations.

The operation covered the TBS and Costain Under Bridge areas, including sections around the National Theatre.

LAWMA said monitoring of the locations would continue to prevent the return of illegal trading activities.
