Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned governors and other members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council against claiming victory in the 2027 presidential election if they fail to deliver their states for President Bola Tinubu.

Wike gave the warning on Wednesday during the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja, where he was appointed coordinator for the FCT and Rivers State.

He said the priority of every member of the council should be to secure Tinubu’s re-election, regardless of their positions within the campaign structure.

“I want to say, if you don’t deliver your states and the president wins, don’t say we’ve won. It’s not a question of whether I am chairman, secretary or member of this. What is important is for the president to win,” Wike said.

He added that he had told the President’s Chief of Staff that the campaign could not claim overall victory if Tinubu failed to win Lagos State.

Wike pledged to mobilise support for Tinubu in Rivers State and the FCT, expressing confidence that both would vote massively for the President in 2027.

The minister also commended Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke for attending the inauguration, describing their presence as an indication of support for Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Wike defended the Tinubu administration’s performance, arguing that previous governments had identified Nigeria’s problems but failed to address them adequately.

He also maintained that democracy required a credible opposition capable of pointing out areas where the government needed to improve, rather than criticising it simply because it was in power.

Speaking on his position within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Wike declared himself the party’s leader, insisting that there were no two leaders of the opposition party.

He further challenged FCT area council officials to dispute the impact of Tinubu’s administration on the territory.

The 2027 presidential election is expected to feature Tinubu seeking a second term amid political realignments and efforts by parties and political leaders to build support ahead of the polls.
