President Bola Tinubu has approved lifetime salary payments for retired Comptrollers-General and Deputy Comptrollers-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has disclosed.

Tunji-Ojo made this known during the closing ceremony of a specialised training programme on border control and immigration management at the Immigration Service headquarters in Abuja.

The minister said the approval was part of the Federal Government’s efforts to improve the welfare of personnel under the Ministry of Interior.

He recalled that retired Comptrollers-General previously received pensions of about ₦130,000, describing the amount as inadequate.

“Previously, CGs had a pension of about N130,000, it was not encouraging. But what did the president do? He signed, and approved salary for life for CGs and DCGs,” Tunji-Ojo said.

He also commended Tinubu for approving salary increases and adjustments to hazard and peculiar allowances for personnel in the ministry.

According to the minister, the administration has also addressed promotion backlogs, with about 50,000 personnel promoted within the past three years.

Tunji-Ojo urged officers to reciprocate the government’s efforts by remaining committed to their duties and improving service delivery.

He said the administration was focused on strengthening public institutions and introducing policies designed to improve personnel welfare and institutional performance.
