Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has warned President Bola Tinubu that Nigerians will vote him out of office in 2027 over what he described as his administration’s failure to address the country’s economic and security challenges.

Atiku said Tinubu should focus on defending his record in office rather than questioning his investment in the American University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola.

The former vice-president made the remarks in a response issued by his media aide, Phrank Shaibu, on Saturday, following Tinubu’s comments about how Atiku funded the university while serving in government.

Atiku said his investment in AUN and ABTI Academy began before he became vice-president in 1999, adding that the foundation of the institution was laid in 1993.

“My investment in the university was a long-term project that started before I became vice president in 1999. It is therefore wrong to suggest that it was established with money I made while in office,” he said.

He challenged Tinubu to explain his administration’s performance, accusing it of worsening poverty, insecurity, unemployment and the cost-of-living crisis.

“Your failures will send you packing in 2027. Rather than attacking my investment in education, you should tell Nigerians what you have done to improve their lives,” Atiku said.

The ADC presidential candidate urged Tinubu to address Nigerians’ concerns over the state of the country instead of making his private investment a subject of political attacks.

The exchange followed Tinubu’s remarks at an APC rally in Rivers State, where he questioned how Atiku established a university while serving as vice-president.
